Babbacombe Fayre Treasure Hunt Results
Ahoy Treasure Hunters!
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to our funds at Babbacombe Fayre on Sunday 9 August in pursuit of the Captain’s hidden treasure by embracing the adventure, cracking the clues, venturing from harbour to headland, cave to coastline and carefully placing your pin on our Pirates Map. Here are the results.
For days, a mystery has been unfolding across Torbay. Maps were studied. Clues were debated. Landmarks were uncovered. Everyone successfully identified the locations, but there was one final mystery to solve…hy those locations?
The Captain left us with a mystery.
We were intrigued by the mystery.
A mystery leaving us intrigued in Torbay – could that be another clue?
The answer was hidden in plain sight.
The locations weren’t just random landmarks. Together they formed a trail through the life, inspirations and legacy of Torbay’s most famous resident, Dame Agatha Christie, the Queen of Crime.
Each clue pointed to a location connected to Agatha Christie and her world:
Torre Abbey – Home to the Potent Plants Garden featuring many of the poisonous plants Christie used in her novels.
Kents Cavern – Inspiration for a cavern featured in The Man in the Brown Suit.
The Golden Hind, Brixham – Reflecting the maritime settings that appeared throughout her stories.
Cockington Country Park – A favourite childhood location where Agatha enjoyed amateur theatricals.
Princess Theatre & Paignton Pier – Celebrating the seafront where a young Agatha spent many happy days.
Torquay Museum – Home to the UK’s dedicated Agatha Christie Gallery.
Paignton Zoo – Reflecting her love of animals and colourful local characters.
Babbacombe – An area that inspired settings and atmospheres found in several of her novels.
Berry Head – Its dramatic cliffs echo the tension and suspense found in Christie’s greatest mysteries.
Palace Avenue / Palace Theatre – A long-standing home of Agatha Christie productions and celebrations.
And when all the clues were finally put together, they pointed to one final destination…

Agatha Christie’s beloved holiday home, which she described as “the loveliest place in the world.”
The Captain’s treasure wasn’t hidden at random. It was hidden at the heart of Torbay’s greatest mystery.

While many people uncovered all the locations, only the true detectives spotted the Agatha Christie connection running through the entire treasure hunt.
As Hercule Poirot himself might say:
“The clues were there all along. One simply had to put them together.”
